Psychology & Behavioural Science

Research-track psychology: design the study, collect the data, defend your methodology.

This is research-track psychology — not clinical practice. The proof standard is your methodology, not your conclusions. You design a study that addresses a real research question, collect real behavioural data with documented methodology and ethics consideration, and defend every design choice to a researcher who will look for confounds, sampling problems, and alternative explanations. Psychology research that hasn't been challenged is not ready to be cited.

Skills

Psychological Research Design

Required. Complete research proposal: specific research question, study design with rationale, sampling justification, ethics consideration checklist (participant risk assessment, consent procedure), proposed analysis plan. A psychology academic challenges at least one design choice and its threats to validity — your written response is part of the proof. Research design with ethics consideration precedes data collection — standard in all accredited psychology programmes.

Behavioural Data Collection and Analysis

Required. Conduct a real behavioural study (observational, survey, or controlled experiment) with documented methodology and real results. Document consent procedure where human participants are involved. Research-track, non-clinical context only. A psychologist or behavioural researcher challenges your interpretation and asks what alternative explanations exist — your written response is part of the proof. Executes the research design from seq 10.

Psychological Assessment Application

Elective. Apply a validated assessment instrument (Big Five, standardised cognitive measure, or equivalent) to a real participant group in a supervised non-clinical research setting. NOT clinical assessment — participants are research volunteers, no individual clinical interpretation is produced. A psychology academic confirms appropriate application and challenges your group-level interpretation — their review and your response are part of the proof.

Applied Psychology Case Analysis

Elective. Real applied psychology case analysis: workplace team dynamics, behaviour change intervention design, UX research synthesis, or organisational culture assessment. Real organisation, real data (with consent), named psychological framework throughout. A practitioner with I/O, UX research, or applied psychology experience challenges your methodology or conclusions — their challenge and your written response are part of the proof.

Psychology Research Report with Peer Review

Elective capstone. Complete psychology research report in IMRaD format, submitted to a structured peer review process (university journal, conference, or departmental peer review with ≥2 reviewers). Proof: submitted report, documented reviewer feedback, and your written revision response addressing at least one substantive methodological comment. The peer review system provides the adversarial verification.

Free research infrastructure platform used by the psychology research community for pre-registration, data sharing, and open peer review. Use OSF to pre-register your research design before data collection — pre-registration strengthens your methodology defence by proving your analysis plan was specified before you saw the data.

Free learning resources from the APA on psychology research reporting standards. The IMRaD format required for the psychology research report step follows APA structure. The free tutorials cover each section of a research paper in detail.

Free, academically grounded explanations of psychological theories, research methods, and validated assessment instruments. Useful for understanding the theoretical frameworks and assessment tools referenced in the applied psychology and assessment steps.
