The SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional) is the entry-level HR professional credential. Eligibility requires a combination of HR experience and education: with a Bachelor's degree in HR or related field, 1 year of HR experience; with a Bachelor's degree in another field, 2 years; with an Associate's degree or some college, 3 years; without a degree, 4 years of HR experience. The application must be submitted to SHRM during an application window, accepted, and the candidate registered for the computer-based exam. This milestone covers meeting the requirements, submitting the application, and receiving approval to test.
Proof required
Submit: (1) evidence of meeting the eligibility requirements: education documentation (degree certificate or transcript) and an employment letter or resume confirming years of HR experience in a qualifying HR role; (2) the SHRM application confirmation email showing application status (Approved to Test); (3) the exam registration confirmation showing your scheduled exam date, testing center or remote proctoring details, and the exam window.
What gets checked
- Eligibility evidence matches the tier claimed — if claiming 1 year of experience with a related Bachelor's degree, the employment letter must specifically describe HR responsibilities, not general business responsibilities
- Application confirmation is the SHRM Approved to Test email, not the application submission confirmation — submission is a first step; approval to test is the milestone
- Exam is scheduled within the approved testing window — the registration confirmation must show a date within the exam window granted by SHRM
