Complete eight weeks of trail running with at least three sessions per week, including weekly vertical gain (uphill running or hiking) totalling at least 200m per week, and at least one long run per week exceeding 10km on trail or hilly terrain. Trail racing differs from road running in the demands it places on ankle stability, downhill braking, and uphill effort management — these skills cannot be trained on a treadmill or flat road.
