Hit 2× bodyweight and identify the sticking point
Requires existing strong deadlift base (varies by athlete)
Establish a clean 2× bodyweight deadlift and have a coach or experienced training partner observe your mechanics closely to identify where the lift breaks down as you push toward 2.5×. The sticking point at this level is almost always specific — off the floor, at the knee, or at lockout — and the M2 programme must target it directly.
Proof required
Submit: (1) video of a 2× bodyweight deadlift with full lockout; (2) written analysis from a coach or experienced training partner naming the specific sticking point and its cause.
What gets checked
- 2× BW lift shows clean mechanics — full ROM from floor to lockout, neutral spine, no hitch
- Sticking point analysis names a specific mechanical position (e.g., 'bar slows at mid-shin due to early hip rise')
- Analysis is from someone with demonstrable training experience — not self-assessed alone
Common mistakes
- Skipping the sticking point diagnosis: jumping straight to heavy pulling without identifying the limiting factor leads to grinding through the same failure point for months
- Relying on back rounding to move past the sticking point: allowing the lower back to round increases injury risk dramatically at loads approaching 2.5× BW

What a verifier looks for
- Does the 2× BW video show clean mechanics — full lockout, neutral spine, no hitch?
- Is the sticking point analysis specific with a named mechanical position and cause?
- Did the analysis come from someone with training experience — not self-assessed alone?

Complete advanced 12-week specialisation block
12–16 weeks
Run a deadlift specialisation programme of 12–16 weeks using techniques appropriate for your sticking point: deficit pulls (off the floor weakness), block pulls (lockout weakness), or Romanian deadlifts and hamstring work (mid-shin weakness). Log every session and include video of submaximal sets every 4 weeks to track technique under fatigue.
Proof required
Submit: (1) 12-week training log with deadlift accessory work; (2) videos of a heavy working set at weeks 4, 8, and 12 showing technique progression.
What gets checked
- Log shows 12+ consecutive weeks with accessory work targeting the identified sticking point
- Videos at weeks 4, 8, and 12 show an observable technique improvement or load increase from M1 baseline
- The sticking point accessory (deficit, block, or RDL) is explicitly included in the log
Common mistakes
- Abandoning the specialisation work when it feels boring: deficit and block pulls produce monotonous sessions but are the most targeted tools for the specific weaknesses that cap 2.5× BW lifts
- Overloading accessory work: using the same intensity on accessory lifts as on competition-style deadlifts leads to accumulated fatigue that caps progress

What a verifier looks for
- Does the log show 12+ consecutive weeks with specific sticking-point accessory work?
- Do the week-4, week-8, and week-12 videos show progressive load increases or technique improvement?
- Is the specific accessory (deficit, block, or RDL) visibly programmed in the log?

Deadlift 2.5× bodyweight with full lockout
1 session or competition day after M2 block
Execute the goal lift in a fresh state or at a sanctioned powerlifting meet. Load the bar to 2.5× your documented bodyweight, confirmed by scale the same session. Full ROM required: bar from floor to complete hip lockout with spine neutral. A competition lift is preferable — it adds third-party verification.
Proof required
Submit: (1) unedited side-angle video of the 2.5× BW deadlift with plates legible OR official powerlifting meet result showing ≥2.5× BW deadlift; (2) same-session scale photo if doing a training lift.
What gets checked
- Full ROM from floor to lockout — no block pulls, hitching, or partial lockout
- Bar load is verifiably 2.5× documented bodyweight
- If a training lift: video is continuous and unedited from setup to standing
Common mistakes
- Attempting in a fatigued state: the 2.5× test should come at the end of a proper taper week, not after a full training session
- Rounded-spine success: completing the lift with a significantly rounded lower back — this is the most common form of 2.5× BW deadlift that fails the quality standard
