3 milestones

Train Brazilian jiu-jitsu consistently for six months with attendance that demonstrates commitment — typically 3+ sessions per week at a registered gym under a qualified instructor. The blue belt is awarded by the coach, not earned by hitting a defined metric; but six months of consistent training is the floor for serious consideration across most BJJ gyms. 'Consistent' is the operative word: six months of training that included two 3-week breaks, irregular attendance, and months with fewer than 4 total sessions is not consistent training; it is occasional training. The proof for this milestone is an attendance or training log showing session frequency across six months, signed or attested by the instructor (email confirmation from the instructor counts).

Proof required

Submit: a training log covering six months of sessions with dates and durations (app export, notebook log, or gym attendance record), plus a brief note from your instructor (email or written) confirming that you have been training consistently for six months.

What gets checked

  • Six months of sessions are logged with dates — the log must span six calendar months; a log covering 4 months with doubled sessions does not substitute; count the distinct calendar months covered
  • Session frequency demonstrates genuine consistency — 3+ sessions per week across most of the six months; a log showing 2-3 sessions in most weeks and 6-8 sessions in the final two weeks to reach a target count is recognisably inconsistent; the distribution across the six months matters, not just the total count
  • Instructor confirmation is present — a note or email from the instructor confirming six months of consistent training; the instructor's perspective is important because they observe mat presence and relative consistency; a student who appears to have trained consistently but is not known to the instructor has not trained consistently in a meaningful sense

Grappling Industries — Competition Calendar

Free — entering one white belt competition before month 6 exposes the gaps between drilling and live competition; the experience is more instructive than six months of gym rolling alone
