Build Fundamental Technique and Basic Independence
6–10 weeks (30–45 min/day)
Develop stick control, correct posture, and basic four-limb independence. Work through a structured beginner programme covering: matched grip, bass drum and hi-hat coordination, a basic rock beat in 4/4, and simple fill transitions. Practice with a metronome at 60–80 BPM before increasing tempo. Reach the point where you can play a basic two-bar groove with one fill cleanly for two continuous minutes.
Proof required
Submit a video recording (minimum 3 minutes) showing: your seated posture and grip from two angles; a two-bar groove with hi-hat, snare, and bass drum at 70 BPM held steady for 60 seconds; and a simple four-note fill transition played cleanly three times in a row.
What gets checked
- Tempo is consistent — the metronome or a backing track is audible in the recording confirming the BPM
- Grip and posture are visibly correct — no tension in shoulders, sticks held at the balance point
- Fill transitions land on beat 1 cleanly — no rushing or late arrival back to the groove
