Prepare a Body of Work for Exhibition
4–8 weeks
Create or curate a cohesive body of work (minimum five pieces) with a clear thematic, conceptual, or stylistic thread that would hold together as an exhibition. Write an artist's statement (300–500 words) explaining the intent, the materials or methods used, and what you want an audience to experience or understand. The statement and work must be complete before approaching exhibition venues.
Proof required
Submit: (a) documentation of all five or more works (photographs, video, digital files, or links), (b) your artist's statement as a standalone document, and (c) a brief description of the thematic or conceptual connection across the works. The documentation must be high-quality enough to submit to a venue — blurry phone photos of paintings leaned against a wall are not sufficient.
What gets checked
- Artist's statement explains the work's intent in specific terms — what questions it asks, what experience it creates — not just the materials and process
- All five or more works are complete (not sketches or works in progress) and documented to a standard suitable for submission
- Thematic connection is visible to a viewer who hasn't read the statement — the works hold together as a set
