Register for the exam and build the study plan based on a diagnostic

CFA Level 2 covers 10 topic areas with a heavier weight on equity valuation, financial reporting, and fixed income than Level 1. Before studying, complete a diagnostic assessment (the CFA Institute's free sample questions cover Level 2 topics) to identify which topic areas need the most attention. The study plan must be specific: total hours planned (the CFA Institute recommends 300+ hours for Level 2), weekly allocation, topic area sequence, and target exam date. CFA Level 2 uses item sets (vignettes) rather than standalone questions — the study plan must include vignette practice time.
Proof required
Submit your CFA Level 2 exam registration confirmation from the CFA Institute (showing your name and exam date), your diagnostic assessment results from CFA Institute sample questions or equivalent (showing performance by topic area), and your study plan covering: total planned study hours, weekly allocation, topic area sequence and hour allocation by topic, the resources you will use for each topic, and the date you plan to complete mock exams before the sitting.

- Registration confirmation from CFA Institute is official and names the specific exam window — this confirms the commitment is real, not aspirational
- Study plan allocates more hours to lower-scoring topic areas from the diagnostic — the diagnostic exists to differentiate the study plan; equal allocation across all topics ignores the information it provides
- Study plan includes specific time for vignette (item set) practice separate from topic study — answering 6-question item sets in 18 minutes requires a distinct reading and reasoning skill from answering standalone questions
