The Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate exam covers five domains: Databricks Lakehouse Platform (24%), ELT with Spark SQL and Python (29%), Incremental Data Processing with Delta Lake (22%), Production Pipelines (16%), and Data Governance (9%). Complete the study program and validate readiness with practice assessments
5–10 weeks of active study
Work through all planned Databricks Academy courses and Community Edition practice sessions. Every domain in the exam requires hands-on application — the exam includes questions that describe a specific Delta Lake operation or Auto Loader configuration and ask which code or command achieves the result. Candidates who have not written and run the code themselves consistently get these questions wrong. Validate readiness using the Databricks Academy exam prep course's practice questions and available third-party mock exams before booking. Target ≥80% on practice assessments — the actual passing score varies (Databricks uses scaled scoring) and an 80% target provides a meaningful buffer.

Common mistakes

- Skipping the Data Governance domain because it is only 9% of the exam — the governance questions are mostly conceptual (Unity Catalog structure, data lineage, access control) and can be learned quickly; skipping them wastes easy marks
