Read one book per month for 12 consecutive months. Fiction, non-fiction, and academic texts all count. Proof is a written reflection per book demonstrating real engagement with the content — not a summary.

Read three books across three months and write a reflection for each. The reflection requirement is the defining feature of this outcome — it is what distinguishes reading from reading-and-thinking. A reflection is not a summary (what the book says) but a response (what it made you think, what it challenged, what you disagree with, how it connects to something you already knew or believed). The first three months establish the reading habit and the reflection discipline simultaneously. Three books in three months is achievable at roughly 20–30 minutes of reading per day. Book selection matters for sustainability: choose books you are genuinely curious about, not books you think you should read; guilt-reading produces incomplete books, not reflections.
Proof required
Submit: for each of the three books, the book title, author, and a 100+ word reflection that engages with the ideas (not a plot summary). The three reflections can be submitted as a single document.
What gets checked
- Each reflection is 100+ words and responds to the book's ideas — a reflection that summarises the plot or argument without engaging with it does not pass; 'this book argues X and Y and concludes Z' is a summary; 'this book argues X which I found compelling, but the evidence for Y was weaker than the author admitted — the case study in chapter 6 assumed the reader would accept a correlation as causation, and when I looked up the original study, the effect size was much smaller than presented' is a reflection; the reflection must be in the submitter's own voice and demonstrate engagement
- Three distinct books are represented — three reflections on the same book do not count; three different books by the same author count if they are genuinely different works; different editions of the same book do not count
- Books are completed, not partially read — a reflection on a book that was 60% read before abandonment does not count; the milestone requires completed books; incomplete books may be counted if the submitter explicitly notes they read the entire book and the reflection covers the whole arc
