Calculate area and perimeter of shapes
2 weeks (20 min/day)
Find the area and perimeter of rectangles, triangles, and composite shapes by applying the correct formula. A parent or teacher gives 10 problems (at least 3 composite shapes) and checks that formulas are stated and applied correctly. The student should also be able to convert between units (cm to m, inches to feet).
Proof required
Submit a photo of 10 completed area and perimeter problems (at least 3 composite shapes) with the formula written and the calculation shown for each, and a parent or teacher note confirming the answers.
What gets checked
- Formula stated before calculation for each problem
- 8 of 10 problems correct with working shown
- At least 3 composite shapes decomposed correctly into rectangles and triangles
Common mistakes
- Confusing area (square units) with perimeter (linear units) — label units on every answer (cm² for area, cm for perimeter) to catch this early
- Adding all sides for perimeter of a shape where the perimeter includes an unlabelled side — draw the shape and label all sides before calculating

What a verifier looks for
- Check that formulas are written — a correct answer without a formula is partial credit only
- Confirm units on every answer: area answers must be in square units (cm²), perimeter in linear units (cm)
- For composite shapes: check that the student decomposed the shape into parts before calculating

Calculate volume, angles, and use coordinate planes
2 weeks (20 min/day)
Find the volume of rectangular prisms, measure and classify angles (acute, obtuse, right, straight), and plot and read points on a coordinate plane. A parent or teacher gives 10 mixed problems covering all three topics and checks the answers and working.
Proof required
Submit a photo of 10 completed problems covering volume (at least 3), angles (at least 3 with measurements), and coordinate plane (at least 4 point-plotting or reading problems), with working shown and a parent or teacher note confirming answers.
What gets checked
- Volume formula V = l × w × h stated and applied correctly
- Angles labelled with their type (acute, obtuse, right) and measured in degrees
- Coordinate plane points plotted correctly in all four quadrants (or in the first quadrant if the curriculum only covers that)
Common mistakes
- Confusing volume with area — volume needs three dimensions; if a problem gives length and width only, the height is missing and cannot be solved without it
- Reading coordinates in the wrong order (y, x instead of x, y) — reinforce 'along the corridor before up the stairs': x first, y second

Pass Geometry and Measurement assessment at 80%
2–3 days (review)
Reach 80% mastery on the Khan Academy 5th or 6th Grade Geometry units. A teacher-graded test covering area, perimeter, volume, angles, and coordinate planes at 80% or above is also accepted.
Proof required
Submit a screenshot of your Khan Academy 5th or 6th Grade Math course showing 80%+ in the geometry and measurement units (or a teacher-graded geometry test scoring 80%+). Your name must be visible.
What gets checked
- 80%+ covering area/perimeter, volume, and coordinate plane — all three topics
- Student's name visible on submission
- If teacher-graded: test includes all three topic areas
Common mistakes
- Completing only the area/perimeter unit and skipping volume and coordinate plane — all three are required for this level
