Document and analyse classroom behaviour patterns over three observed lessons

In your supervised teaching placement, observe and document behaviour patterns in a minimum of three taught lessons. For each lesson, record: the lesson context, specific behaviour incidents (anonymised), the strategy you used, and what happened. Your documentation must be contemporaneous — written during or immediately after each lesson, not reconstructed later.
Proof required
Submit contemporaneous behaviour observation logs for minimum three lessons (anonymised — no learner names or identifying details) and a pattern analysis (minimum 200 words) identifying recurring patterns across the three observations.
What gets checked
- Minimum three separate lessons documented — not one lesson described in three parts
- Observation logs are contemporaneous — dated and specific to each incident
- Pattern analysis identifies specific recurring behaviour patterns — not general observations
Common mistakes
- Observation logs are reconstructed after the fact — lack specificity and timing detail
- Fewer than three separate lessons documented
- Pattern analysis is general — 'some students were disruptive' without identifying specific patterns

What a verifier looks for
- Confirm current enhanced DBS/background check clearance is documented as a prerequisite — arranged through placement institution
- Confirm completion of a recognised safeguarding training module is documented with module name and completion date
- Verify qualified supervisor attestation is present — named mentor teacher or university placement tutor — peer verification is NEVER acceptable for this outcome
- Check all observation logs are anonymised — no learner names, class identifiers, or combinations that identify individuals
- Verify logs are contemporaneous — ask student to describe one specific incident and when they wrote it up
Apply a structured behaviour strategy and document outcomes across two lessons
2 weeks (placement-based)
Based on your observation analysis, select a specific evidence-based behaviour strategy to apply in two subsequent lessons. Before each lesson, write your strategy plan (what you will do and why). During or immediately after each lesson, document what happened and whether the strategy had the intended effect. Your supervisor must observe at least one of these two lessons.
Proof required
Submit: (1) strategy rationale (which strategy, why you chose it, what evidence supports it — minimum 200 words), (2) two strategy application logs (plan + outcome per lesson, anonymised), (3) supervisor observation note from at least one lesson.
What gets checked
- Strategy is evidence-based — linked to specific research or professional guidance
- Two application logs with both pre-lesson plan and post-lesson outcome
- Supervisor observation note present for at least one lesson
Common mistakes
- Strategy is chosen by instinct without evidence base
- Application logs only document outcomes without pre-lesson plans
- No supervisor observation documented

Produce behaviour management reflection and strategy review
1 week
Produce a structured behaviour management reflection (minimum 500 words) covering: what your observations and strategy applications taught you about the relationship between teaching environment and student behaviour, what you would do differently, and how your understanding of behaviour management has changed since starting the placement. Your supervisor must sign off the reflection as an accurate account.
Proof required
Submit your behaviour management reflection (minimum 500 words, anonymised) with supervisor sign-off statement confirming the reflection accurately represents your placement experience.
What gets checked
- Reflection demonstrates changed understanding — not just a description of what happened
- Reflection is honest about what did not work as well as what did
- Supervisor sign-off is present and the reflection is accurately attributed to the placement
Common mistakes
- Reflection describes events rather than demonstrating changed understanding
- Reflection is entirely positive — no honest engagement with what did not work
- No supervisor sign-off
