4 weeks · 3 milestones

Read and write all Korean Hangul characters fluently. Unlike app-based learning, every milestone requires proof of real human communication — not a score on an app.

Hangul was designed to be learned quickly — it is a featural alphabet of 14 basic consonants and 10 basic vowels, combined into syllable blocks. Begin with the 10 basic vowels (ㅏ ㅑ ㅓ ㅕ ㅗ ㅛ ㅜ ㅠ ㅡ ㅣ) and the 14 basic consonants (ㄱ ㄴ ㄷ ㄹ ㅁ ㅂ ㅅ ㅇ ㅈ ㅊ ㅋ ㅌ ㅍ ㅎ). Learn how consonants and vowels are assembled into syllable blocks — the rules for block construction are the key insight in Hangul literacy.

Proof required

Submit a handwritten chart (photo or scan) showing all 14 basic consonants and all 10 basic vowels, each labelled with their romanisation and sound, written in your own hand — no pre-printed worksheets.

What gets checked

  • All 14 basic consonants and all 10 basic vowels present and legible
  • Each character correctly labelled with its sound (Revised Romanisation or IPA acceptable)
  • At least 5 two-character syllable blocks showing correct block construction (e.g. 가 바 마 나 사)
