German A2 requires using the Perfekt tense accurately, navigating nominative/accusative/dative cases in basic sentences, and handling separable verbs in past and present. These are the key grammatical obstacles between A1 conversational German and A2. This milestone builds that grammar foundation through demonstrated spoken production, not academic description.
Proof required
Record a 4-minute unscripted account of your last weekend in German. Use Perfekt at least 6 times, include at least one dative construction (mit + dative, nach + dative, or bei + dative), and use at least one separable verb in Perfekt. Write 100 words on which cases you're finding most reliable vs. still unreliable in spontaneous speech.
What gets checked
- Perfekt appears at least 6 times and the auxiliary (haben vs. sein) is correct for the majority of uses — a pattern of consistent haben/sein errors across multiple verbs indicates the distinction hasn't been internalized
- At least one dative construction is present and correct — not just nominative and accusative
- The self-assessment is honest about which cases are reliable vs. unreliable in spontaneous speech — this is more useful than 'I know all the cases'
