Most countries require a written theory or knowledge test before allowing practice on public roads. In the UK this is the theory test (multiple choice and hazard perception); in the US it is the learner's permit knowledge test; in Australia the learner knowledge test. Study your jurisdiction's official highway code, road rules document, or driver handbook — theory questions draw directly from the official text, not from unofficial apps. Pass the required test and obtain your provisional licence or learner permit.
Proof required
Submit a photograph or scan of your official theory test pass certificate, learner's permit, or provisional licence issued by your jurisdiction's licensing authority, showing your name and the pass status or permit grant date.
What gets checked
- Document is issued by an official licensing authority (DVLA, DMV, VicRoads, or equivalent government agency) — driving school enrollment certificates and instructor letters do not satisfy this milestone
- Document shows a pass status or official permit grant, not a failure notification or practice test result — a screenshot of an app score does not qualify
- Your name is legible on the document — blurred or cropped images that hide the issued name are not acceptable
