Rigorous Course: Project Deliverable + Certificate

12 weeks · 3 milestones

Complete a full structured online course from a recognised institution (MIT OCW, Coursera, edX, or equivalent) in a subject outside your normal curriculum. Proof is the completion certificate plus a 500-word reflection on what changed in your thinking.

3 milestones

The right course is one where you can name a specific skill or knowledge goal that completing it will advance — not 'learn more about data science' but 'learn to write SQL queries for data analysis'. That specificity is what makes M3's applied output achievable: if you do not know what you plan to build or do with the course knowledge before you start, completing the certificate is not sufficient evidence that the outcome was worthwhile.

Proof required

Name the course, the platform, and your specific goal for taking it (one sentence: what will you be able to do or produce after completing this course that you cannot do now?). Share evidence that you have completed the first 25% of the course content — a screenshot showing completed modules, a completed exercise output, or a 200-word summary of what the first section covered and the specific thing from it you plan to apply.

What gets checked

  • Course is on a free platform and contains at least 5 hours of content — a short tutorial or a single video is not a course for this outcome
  • Specific goal is stated in one sentence and names what you will be able to do, not just a topic — 'learn Python' is a topic; 'write a Python script that reads a CSV file and outputs a filtered result' is a goal
  • Evidence of first-quarter completion is provided — completed module screenshot, exercise output, or 200-word content summary

Kaggle Learn or The Odin Project — portfolio-producing courses

Mastery check: if the course you are taking does not naturally produce a portfolio artifact by the end, switch to Kaggle Learn (data) or The Odin Project (web development) for M3 — both are structured so that completing the course IS producing the applied output
